Mask - Baule - Côte d'Ivoire (No reserve price)

Masks representing wild animals such as the buffalo, the elephant, the lion, are the most common. This mask is decorative. On the other hand, it is rarer to see domestic animals accorded the rank of ritual mask. Zoomorphic masks of animals such as the Ram, the Goat, the Horse, the Rooster, the Dog will nonetheless bring additional symbolism to the masquerades, but also in some cases represent the animal that will be sacrificed. Example with the Ram masks: they symbolize great sexual and reproductive power, but are often also victims of sacrifices.
