Marshal VAILLANT (Jean-Baptiste-Philibert) Dijon, Côte-d’Or, 1790–1872 - Marshal of France in 1851, Minister of War from 1854 to 1859, Senator—Letter signed in his capacity as Minister of the Imperial Household and the Fine Arts. To Mr. TOURMANTE, also known as DESCORMIERS, Captain of Customs at TRÉGUIER (Côtes-du-Nord). Tuileries Palace, June 30, 1869. 1 page, in-4°: “Sir, in a petition addressed to the Emperor (Napoleon III), you requested, on behalf of your son Napoleon-Eugène—godson of Their Majesties and a student receiving a three-quarters scholarship at the Imperial High School in St-Brieuc— the full scholarship, and at the same time requested to be exempted from the cost of his trousseau. In light of the august patronage with which your child is honored, I have recommended your request, … but the scholarship upgrade can only be granted if your son has earned a place on the Honor Roll…”
