MANUSCRIPT. — CARTA EJECUTORIA. [Spain, 17th century]. Folio manuscript (290 x 190 mm) consisting of 74 unnumbered leaves, red morocco leather, double framing on the covers formed by fillets and rolled borders featuring crenellated and rat-tooth motifs, embellished in the corners and at the center of each side with scrollwork and floral motifs, inscription in gilded capital letters at the top and bottom: “real carta ejecutoria / de la ylustre familia / de / los lunas, traces of ribbon ties, spine decorated with a repeating floral motif, gilt edges (contemporary Spanish binding). Manuscript on vellum decorated with two large, full-page paintings facing each other, one framed by borders adorned with various motifs (seashells, cherub heads, grotesques, and foliage), depicting the Virgin Mary and three praying figures from the recipient’s family, the other depicting the full coat of arms of the Los Lunas family, and a spectacular half-page painting depicting the King of Spain on horseback triumphing over his enemies, with the text below in gold and silver on a crimson background. The text, calligraphied in black ink in Rotunda script and ruled, is adorned with 35 illuminated letters and a miniature featuring the letter P, in which King Philip III of Spain (1578–1621) is depicted. The charter of nobility was issued in the city of Baza (Baca). Very attractive Spanish binding. Some slight scuffing on the binding. Reproduction on the first page of the catalog
