SPLENDID VISUAL MANIFEST, this diptych by the painter and illustrator Henri GILLET elevates exceptional interiors through its unique, original natural motifs. A grand decorative diptych capturing the fascinating aesthetic transition between Art Nouveau and Art Déco right after World War I. Signed by the master French ornemanist Henri GILLET (1874–1925) and published in Paris by the renowned art publishing house C. Massin (circa 1920–1922), these vertical panels feature superb, structured floral designs. Printed in luxury chromolithography and hand-enhanced with gouache au pochoir, they served as prestigious wall decorations for bourgeois interiors and the cabinets of interwar interior architects. HENRI GILLET (1874–1925) : A major figure of the French decorative revival, he established himself as a master of wall ornamentation and applied arts. Active from the late Art Nouveau period into the early 1920s, he dedicated his illustrative talent to Paris's leading art publishers. His benchmark portfolios—such as Art appliqué français moderne (1922) or the monumental Nouvelles fantaisies décoratives published by C. Massin—served as essential ideas banks for decorators and creators of the era seeking to shape the bourgeois taste. AT THE CROSSROAD OF STYLES : Standing between 1900 organic exuberance and the geometric rigor of the Roaring Twenties, this creation illustrates the desire to discipline floral motifs within rigorous architectural frameworks, answering the new aspirations of an enlightened bourgeoisie searching for order and modernity. FIRST PANEL (SIGNED H.G.) : Unfolds a terrestrial, warm structure, associating a lush foreground of orchids in salmon and orangey-pink tones with a twilight background in ochre and golden hues. SECOND PANEL (SIGNED H.G.) : Lifts the gaze toward air and water through a flamboyant bouquet of red lilies standing on long, serpentine stems, overlooking a body of water populated by water lilies and bordered by slender trees. THE SOUL OF THE OBJECT : A piece selected by Antiques Foundry for its unique graphic poetry that breathes the timeless elegance of exceptional interiors into any space.
