Male Portrait with Hat. Spanish School. 18th-19th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 60 x 46 cm and 73 x 59 cm. Half-length portrait of an elderly man with a thick white beard, penetrating gaze, and a wide-brimmed hat. He leans toward the viewer with an eloquent gesture of his hands. The directed lighting highlights the complexions of the face and the texture of the hair, generating a strong chiaroscuro against the dark background. The brushwork is precise and academic, with particular attention to facial expressions. This work displays traits typical of late Baroque and Spanish Neoclassical portraiture, ranging from the 18th to the early 19th centuries, where naturalism is combined with subtle and sober psychological characterization. Its expressive power and the austerity of the background reinforce the introspective dignity of the subject. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
