Magnificent Diamond Bracelet in Silver on Gold, St. Petersburg, c. 1910

It was not only in Vienna, Paris and London that exquisite jewellery was created in the fashionable styles of the day. The great cities further east, too, were home to remarkable jewellers and their magnificent creations, whether in Odessa, Moscow or St Petersburg. This beautiful bracelet takes us to the last of these cities. Crafted in gold with a silver-set front, the bracelet is distinguished by its cool, understated elegance. Its central section flows gracefully from the slender linked band, gradually widening to reveal a particularly beautiful diamond in the Old European Cut. This magnificent central stone is surrounded by thirty further diamonds in historic cuts, bringing the total diamond weight to approximately 3.90 carats. The hallmarks on the clasp confirm that the bracelet was made in St Petersburg between 1908 and 1927. We believe it most likely dates from the final years before the Russian Revolution of 1917. This exquisite piece of antique jewellery came to us from Frankfurt am Main.
