The work can be viewed on request in our gallery in Eindhoven. The painting Hemelse Boden (1983) by Lucebert shows how the artist translated his poetic imaginative power into visual art. Lucebert, known as one of the most important representatives of the COBRA movement, developed in his paintings an expressive and free visual language in which figures, emotions and symbolism constantly seem to be in motion. In this work several faces and figures float through a whirling blue space. The figures are distorted and built up from powerful, loose brushstrokes and contrasting colors. Their large, piercing eyes and irregular shapes give them a almost mythical or spiritual appearance. The title Hemelse Boden suggests messengers from another world – figures that seem to float between dream, fantasy and reality. The painting clearly bears the hallmarks of Lucebert's expressive style: raw, intuitive and at the same time poetic. The faces seem to represent separate personalities or voices, but together they form a dynamic, almost cosmic composition.
