Loren Artemis (XX-XXI) - Sguardo d'ambra

Artist: Loren Artemis Technique: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 40 x 30 cm Title: Amber Gaze In this oil on canvas painting of 40 × 30 cm, Loren Artemis portrays a cat through a vibrant chromatic interpretation, in which the subject's delicacy fuses with the energy of an abstract background. Sitting facing forward, with paws gathered and the tail extended along the lower edge, the feline occupies the center of the composition with a composed and attentive presence. The focal point of the work is the gaze: two amber-colored eyes, bright and defined by dark outlines, instantly capture the viewer’s attention. The subtle highlights enhance their depth, suggesting a curious, vigilant, and gently absorbed expression. The pale muzzle, crossed by fine whisker lines, introduces a region of particular brightness, while the ears, lit by orange-toned hues, echo the warmth of the background. The coat is built through a rich succession of blues, deep blues, silvery greys, and violet-tinged shades. Minute, directionally arranged brushstrokes follow the direction of the fur, visually restituting its softness and tracing the body’s volume. Touches of yellow and ochre appear on the chest and flanks, creating a chromatic link between the figure and the surrounding environment. Behind the cat, the background unfolds in overlapped patches, vertical and horizontal marks, glazes and color transitions with a scratched appearance. Golden yellows, oranges, and cream tones alternate with softened greens, blues, and dark accents, composing a texture that evokes an urban wall transfigured by light. Its irregular structure provides a counterpoint to the precision of the face and the softness of the coat. At the bottom, the pink, purple, and blue tones of the supporting plane collect the figure’s shadows and lend stability to the composition. The contrast between the warm golden background and the cool colors of the feline enhances the silhouette, making the subject emerge with particular intensity. Amber Gaze offers an intimate, contemporary animal portrait, in which the expressiveness of the eyes and the freedom of color transform a everyday presence into an image of quietness, elegance, and silent curiosity.
