Looking Beyond - Newel Hunter

Looking Beyond by Newel Hunter Painting 22.0 x 14.0 :: Painted on two superior quality 11 x 14 inch synthetic paper panels (yupo) Looking Beyond Diptych is a perfect example of Hunter’s uniquely expressive style -- which so often results in arresting images with a sense of depth and sculptural form. This diptych presents two abstract compositions side by side each crafted with bold sweeping brushstrokes in varying intensities of black acrylic against a stark white background. The left panel features dense textured areas merging with delicate wisps creating a dynamic sense of movement and depth. The interplay of light and shadow within the brushwork conveys an expressive energy with sharp angular forms juxtaposed against more fluid curved strokes. The right panel mirrors this intensity but introduces a slightly more rounded and flowing quality in its shapes offering a subtle balance to the composition overall. Both sections exude a strong sense of rhythm and organic motion as if capturing natural forces or emotional turbulence in a distilled abstract form. This diptych harnesses the power of monochrome to create a compelling visual dialogue between the two panels. The balance between the bold and delicate brushwork invites viewers to trace the flow encouraging a contemplative engagement with the forms. The contrast in textures and densities adds depth without overwhelming the simplicity of the black-and-white palette. The strength of this diptych lies in the fluidity and spontaneity of the brushstrokes which imbues the art with a live visceral quality in Hunter’s signature style.
