Léo David (1864-1952) - Lac au couchant

Magnificent old oil on canvas by Léo David (1864-1952), entitled "Lake at Sunset", executed in 1920. Very beautiful composition depicting a lakeside landscape at sunset, animated by a few sailboats and bordered by trees. The sky with pink, orange and golden hues is delicately reflected on the water. The material is particularly interesting in the trees and clouds, with an expressive brushwork and beautiful impasto. The work is signed Léo David at the bottom right and dated 1920 at the bottom left. It is presented in an imposing antique gilded wooden frame, enhanced by an elegant burgundy velvet inner surround, which highlights the warm tones of the painting. An old Parisian framer's label is still present on the back. Dimensions with frame: 77 x 66.5 cm. Condition is aged with signs of time: a small light hole in the canvas as well as some wear and small losses, also present on the frame. Overall still very decorative.
