LEGRAS (1839-1916) - Vase - Large vase 'Thebes' enameled...

Circa 1910. Cristallerie Legras & Cie in St-Denis. France Magnificent and rare large vase in blown glass, model “Thebes” with a hexagonal neck, a true invitation to travel, whose Orientalist décor seems to transport us into the blazing light of an oasis at the turn of the early 20th century. On a superb yellow opacified background, gradually set ablaze with orange and fire-red tones as the eye rises toward the neck, almost evoking the heat of an Oriental sky at sunset, a charming and poetic scene unfolds. In the shade of a majestic palm tree, two water-carriers appear surprised in a moment of their daily life. One, dressed in yellow and white, is kneeling at the water’s edge, busy filling her jug, while a second figure draped in red stands in the shade of a large palm, with her jar carried on her shoulder. All around, the vegetation becomes dense and almost mysterious. Palm fronds, reeds, and tall grasses are sketched in deep blue-green tones and stand out against the sunlit glow of the glass. The contrast is superb: the cool, dark oasis responds to the warmth of the background, while the small vividly enameled figures bring life to the composition. The setting thus has something of a small Orientalist painting on glass: a peaceful scene, bathed in warmth, where one can almost imagine the silence of the oasis, the rustling of palm leaves, and the coolness of the water under a reddening and dusky sky. Proof signed “Leg” in the décor for LEGRAS. Beautiful height of about 28 cm with a superb volume. Rare example in the “Thebes” form, quite rare with this magnificent decor, quite sought-after, of which the “Orientalist” series is perfectly referenced and illustrated in the famous Legras Verrier catalog raisonné. In very good condition for its great age, with colors bright and warm. Note just a few small signs of use, quite common due to the passage of time, perfectly consistent with its age (a vase over 115 years old!) which does not detract from the charm of this magnificent Legras signed collectible vase that will surely embellish your interior and evoke the admiration of your guests! Magnificent Art Nouveau piece, both decorative, poetic and exotic: a small piece of dreamed Orient, captured in glass at the last rays of a setting sun. Nice trace of the pontil from the blowpipe cane cut with pliers under the base, a sign of an ancient high-quality artisan know-how. Very beautiful collectible piece from the Art Nouveau period of the Nancy School. Daum Nancy, Gallé, Schneider era.. Professional shipping, very careful and secure, guaranteed with packaging and protection made to measure with tracking and insurance. See my reviews :)
