Toutes les enchères / Sculptures / Le Verre Français – Pie de lámpara Art Déco en vidrio marmoréen naranja y azul

Magnificent original Art Deco Le Verre Français lamp base, Made in marmoreal glass in an extraordinary range of burning orange, coppery red, and deep blue, in the Art Deco style when the house’s production reached one of its most refined expressions, after the end of World War I. To understand the importance of this lot, it is necessary to look at its authors. Charles Schneider (1881-1953), the artistic and creative soul of the workshop, trained as a sculptor at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts de Nancy and worked directly under the tutelage of the great Jean Daum. His brother Ernest Schneider (1877-1937), the business mind of the operation, also brought management experience gained from directing Daum Frères factory. Together they began their own venture in 1913. After manufacturing material for hospitals during the war, in the 1920s they revolutionized the world market with the Le Verre Français brand. This lamp base is a reflection of that overwhelming success that led them to employ hundreds of workers and to sell their coveted pieces in Paris’s most exclusive galleries. DESCRIPTION OF THE PIECE The piece stands out for the slenderness of its profile, presenting an elegant and stylized silhouette, markedly vertical, with a bulbous elongated body that narrows progressively toward the neck and finally opens into a wide circular base. The glass offers extraordinary material-chromatic richness: the burning orange dominates the body, traversed by numerous veins and inclusions that produce a marble-like effect of great depth, while the cold, intense blue concentrates in the lower area and the base, establishing a powerful contrast of complementary colors and creating a bold, dynamic color transition. The surface preserves the full visual richness of marmoreal glass, whose appearance changes noticeably depending on the incidence of light, revealing different densities and nuances in the color masses. The base bears the signature “Le Verre Français” accompanied by the Croix de Lorraine, an identifying element of the company’s production and particularly relevant for the cataloging and dating of the piece. The base retains its original mounting mechanism and structure. The old lighting mechanism is preserved, a circumstance especially interesting from the point of view of the object’s historical integrity. Equally preserves the ornamental leaf-shaped elements, of notable workmanship and fully integrated into the overall organic whole. The electrical installation has been rewired for safety reasons, respecting the old mechanism and the original configuration of the lamp. The electrical components shown correspond to this adaptation for safe use today. AUTHENTICITY AND DATING: THE CROIX DE LORRAINE The piece is signed along the crystal contour with the characteristic handwritten lettering “Le Verre Français,” accompanied by the Croix de Lorraine, one of the marks associated with the early productions of the Schneider workshop. The Le Verre Français mark was registered on October 22, 1918, naming the second commercial line of Schneider manufacture. The early productions were initially identified by the characteristic tricolor berlingot and later by the engraved signature “Le Verre Français.” Specialist documentation also notes the exceptional use of the Croix de Lorraine in the marking system of the early Schneider productions. In this context, the presence of the Croix de Lorraine together with the Le Verre Français signature constitutes an element of special interest for cataloging the piece and is fully coherent with its attribution to the manufacturer’s production during the early 1920s. CONDITION AND TECHNICAL COMPONENTS: (Crystal intact, original mechanism and sockets, newly wired for safety) • The glass is in excellent condition, absolutely free of hairs, cracks, restorations, or the usual pressure nicks at the points of attachment with the iron.
