Large Navette Platinum Ring with 4.20 ct of Old Diamonds, c. 1900

The special fascination of historical diamonds lies in their individual character. No two stones are the same: Color, proportion and brilliance are unique to each diamond. In a time when diamonds were not yet cut to shape on a piecework basis, it was the cutter's job to determine the optimum dimensions for each stone. This ring brings us closer to 23 such diamonds with individuality and history. These stones, which together weigh around 4.20 ct, are characterized by their individual cuts. They prove that the diamonds were cut as early as the second half of the 19th century. They vary slightly in their clarity and color, but when viewed as a whole, they create a harmonious picture full of brilliance. The diamonds were combined into one piece of jewelry around 1900, probably from older pieces of jewelry. They were set in platinum, completely flat, so that they are comfortable to wear. All the stones are set à jour in the precious metal and the settings are open at the back to give them the space they need to sparkle. The undercutting and the ring band were renewed during the graduated 20th century. The latter is made of platinum and has a strong design, making the ring easy to wear. This magnificent ring came to us from the south of Germany.
