Large Earrings with Black and White Brilliant-Cut Diamonds in White

In these large earrings, a total of 850 diamonds cascade down the ear like sparkling water. Hundreds of small black and white brilliant-cut diamonds are set close together in high-karat white gold. Beneath a smaller upper section that conceals the post and the leverback, a large, curved showpiece is attached so that it moves freely. A double row of white diamonds frames a surface of black pavé-set diamonds that curves slightly inward. In 1996, De Grisogono in Geneva introduced black diamonds to the world of haute joaillerie with a collection featuring contrasting white and black diamonds. To this day, jewellery featuring black diamonds remains a hallmark of the company. The success of these designs then led other companies, such as Damiani, to adopt the striking contrast between the materials. The craftsmanship of these earrings, with their delicate diamond settings and dense pavé, is typical of jewellery from the post-millennium era. New craftsmanship techniques made it possible to create pieces of jewellery set so finely and lavishly with diamonds. Indeed, the precision of the craftsmanship, even in the details of these earrings, is impressive. This particular pair was most likely made in Italy. Unfortunately, it is not signed, but its high-quality craftsmanship suggests it comes from one of the traditional workshops that continue to produce pieces of jewellery for major companies to this day. We were able to acquire it from a collection of high-quality modern pieces of jewellery in northern Italy.
