Toutes les enchères / Autres / Lalique - Bookends (2) - Elephant - Crystal
Lalique France Important pair of satin-crystal elephants, model created in 1931 Rare and decorative animal sculptures in transparent and satin crystal depicting an elephant with its trunk raised, presented on a rectangular, sturdy base. Thanks to its remarkable scale, the vigor of its silhouette, and the density of its base, this model goes beyond a simple display figurine and is more akin to a genuine decorative architectural object, often likened to a set of bookends. The work is appealing for the purity of its drawing, the masterful stylization of the volumes, and the elegant tension of the curled trunk, which gives the composition its full presence. The wide ears, the geometric simplification of the masses, and the subtle contrast between the satin surfaces of the body and the luminous transparency of the base accurately translate the formal language of Lalique in its animal creations. Beyond its possible function, this piece stands foremost as a sculpture of light: the satin finish softly captures reflections while the polished base enhances the depth and clarity of the crystal. This balance between plastic power and refined craftsmanship gives it a particularly elegant presence, ideal in a sophisticated interior, on a desk, a library, or within a collection of high-quality French crystal. Signed Lalique France at the base. Dimensions: about 15.9 cm. Images are part of the description. Delivery to a pick-up point.
