Jahrhunderts, vollständig in Kupfer gestochen.- Band 1 wurde von Moreau illustriert und gilt als sein Meisterstück. 'Dessen ... Kupfer ... künden den Beginn seiner besten Periode. Heiter, graziös, selbstsicher wirkt jedes dieser Blätter wie ein reizendes kleines Gedicht' (Fürstenberg 109).- Mit dem nur manchen Exemplaren beigegebenen Porträt, von Denon gezeichnet und Laborde im Profil zeigend (mit Jahreszahl 1774).- Titel des ersten Bandes, fliegende Vorsätze der anderen Bände sowie jeweils eine Seite mit russischem Bibliotheksstempel mit zaristischem Adler, Spiegel jeweils mit schwachen Spuren eines herausgelösten Exlibris. Contemporary marbled calfskin bindings with 2 green spine caps, gilt lettering, gilt fillets on the covers, gilt edges and inner margins, and gilt edges (somewhat rubbed). Cohen/Ricci 534; Slg. Fürstenberg 69; Lonchamp 248. - Second printing of the first edition of the magnificently produced song collection, a major work of 18th-century French book art, entirely engraved in copper. - Volume 1 was illustrated by Moreau and is considered his masterpiece. 'Its ... engravings ... herald the beginning of his best period. Cheerful, graceful, and self-assured, each of these plates appears like a charming little poem' (Fürstenberg 109). - With the portrait, drawn by Denon and showing Laborde in profile (dated 1774), included only in some copies. - Title of the first volume, flyleaves of the other volumes, and one page each with a Russian library stamp bearing the Tsarist eagle; endpapers each with faint traces of a removed bookplate.
