L. Griosel (XVIII)

For sale is a charming testimony to 18th-century French painting. The work is attributed to the historically documented, but extremely rare painter L. Griosel (French School / École Française). The attribution was made by the French art expert Mme. Chantal Mauduit. The restrained, chalky coloration and the atmospheric haze of the background enhance the dreamlike character of the intimate, peaceful scene. Painters like Griosel perfectly captured the elegant and playful spirit of French Rococo and late Baroque. Since this era is mainly represented by the great masters of the Parisian academies, well-preserved works by rarer names such as L. Griosel represent exciting discoveries for enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Attributions to Griosel typically fall in the realms of genre painting and the highly popular “Scenes galantes” of that time. The painting impresses with its period-typical composition and fine historical patina – a wonderful collector’s piece for lovers of classical European art. Purchased in 2026 in France at the auction “Héritage d’une Demeure du XIIe siècle en Champagne, Mobilier et objets d'art”. Details: • Artist: attributed to “L. Griosel” • Era: 18th century / Late Baroque-Rococo • Style: French School (École Française)
