Kosta Boda - Goran Warff - Tealight holder Polar (3) - Crystal glass

Göran Wärff – Kosta Boda – Polar – set of 3 vintage glass sculpture / candle holders – Sweden, 1970s Very beautiful set of 3 vintage Polar candle holders / glass sculptures, designed by the famous Swedish glass artist Göran Wärff (1933–2022) for Kosta. The iconic Polar series was introduced in 1974. Wärff drew inspiration for this series from nature, water, ice and light. Kosta Boda describes Polar as glass sculptures that evoke moving water frozen in time. This is a set of early vintage candle holders from the 1970s, executed in heavy, solid clear glass. The irregular vertical glass formations rise like ice spears or frozen water currents from the round base. Due to the different glass thicknesses, organic structures and air inclusions, beautiful light refractions and reflections are created. In the center is an opening for a tealight. When used, the light is refracted and dispersed through the thick glass, creating a remarkable play of light and shadow between the sculptural glass formations. Even without a candle, the object makes an excellent standalone Scandinavian glass sculpture.
