Toutes les enchères / Monnaies & billets de collection / Kingman, Kansas. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 469. Kingman NB. Charter

One of Two Notes Recorded Here by the National Bank Note Census Kingman, Kansas. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 469. Kingman NB. Charter #3559. PCGS Banknote Good 6. Situated in rural Kingman County roughly an hour north of Kansas's border with Oklahoma, Kingman was surprisingly served by four different National Banks between 1886 and 1909. Yet even though some may rightly assume Kingman to be "common" in numismatic terms, it is anything but with only 10 notes recorded between three banks in the National Bank Note Census. The Kingman National Bank (Charter# 3559) is the second most common of these banks in numerical terms, but a caveat is warranted as only two pieces including this excessively circulated Series of 1882 $5 Brown Back are recorded on this short-lived bank that fell to receivership only four years after organizing in 1886. Here bidders are met with circulation and various issues consistent with the grade assigned while distinct penned signatures attributable to Cashier John Andrew Cragun and President Edgar Henderson are noticed and lend this excessively rare note something often lost at this grade level. Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
