Kenedy, Texas. $10 1929 Ty. 2. Fr. 1801-2. First-Nichols NB. Charter #12187. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25. Named for Mifflin Kenedy who first came to Texas around the late 1840s, Kenedy in Karnes County was surprisingly served by three different National Banks at various points between 1905 and 1922. Organized in 1922, the Nichols National Bank of Kenedy (Charter# 12187) was the last of the three note-issuing banks to organize here and ultimately took a new title when it became the First-Nichols National Bank after it assumed the circulation of the First National Bank (Charter# 12182) in 1932. It was only then that this institution opted to issue National Bank Notes and it managed to keep a sizable circulation for a few years before 1935. Today 27 surviving notes are recorded here by the National Bank Note Census, but relative to the recorded population these notes have commanded strong prices in recent years making this an opportunity best won with a strong bid. Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
