Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained notoriety in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking among the top ten under-30 sculptors according to Artprice that same year. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh identified him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its volume FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly praised Karl for his impressive two-meter bronze sculpture One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais. Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, sparked by his encounter with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro, remaining passionate about collage. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with collages. In 2003 Karl prepared his first show in Paris, which led to his first solo exhibition in 2006 at the Isy Brachot Gallery in Brussels. In 2008 he returned to Paris with a show that combined paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin. Karl loves showcasing his works at international exhibitions. In 2011 he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo show at the Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works before the international press. In 2010 he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania World Championship in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012 he donated Cryptogram One, a bronze symbol of peace and love, to Deauville at the city’s entrance. In the same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he created a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011 signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey. The artist gained notoriety in 2009 with his sculptures “One Dollar,” which ranked him among the world’s top ten under-30 sculptors by Artprice. In 2017 he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Inspired by “Cryptogramme One,” he created a mirror-finished aluminum melt trophy, bearing messages such as “Hope,” “7e Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to create a new trophy, inspired by a symbolic emblem of Deauville: the drawing of the barriers that separate the cabins on the Planches. In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled during the Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017 he created the Trophy for the Deauville American Film Festival, drawing inspiration from his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7e Art” on the trophies. 2026: - Finalization of the work One Dollar Green Bronze 8 meters, 7 tons.
