Signed in the plate with a monogram within the title cartouche. Dimensions: 24 x 17 cm. Mounted in a mat and framed under glass: 27.5 x 27.5 cm. A magnificent etching by this Austrian artist. The piece engages with the classic iconography of *Vanitas* and *Memento mori*, blending the narrative of the Original Sin (Adam, Eve, and the serpent) with the inevitable presence of death looming over humanity (represented by a skeleton with an hourglass). This is likely not from one of the earliest printings of the plate: the figures of the couple already feature cross-hatched shading, though other elements—such as their faces and the body of the serpent—do not yet exhibit the appearance they would take on in later impressions.
