JOSHUA SHAW (BRITISH 1776-1860) CATTLE IN A LANDSCAPE Oil on canvas Signed (lower left) 25.5 x 30cm (10 x 11¾in.) Condition Report: The canvas has been lined and appears to be providing good support. Some small scuffs to the extreme edges commensurate with rubbing to a frame. Craquelure is present across the image with some areas of more prominent paint shrinkage to the darker pigments but the surface appears to be largely stable. Inspection under UV reveals some retouching to the upper and left extreme edges, as well as to the cattle and landscape in the foreground. Further areas of strengthening appear to be present to the trees. The image presents a layer of discoloured varnish and surface dirt.
