Joseph Blanc (1846-1904) is a celebrated Parisian artist who earned fame as a teacher and as a portraitist. Thus, works by him can be admired to this day in the Paris Pantheon, the Hôtel de Ville, and the Opéra Comique. From 1870 he regularly participated in the Paris salons. Works by him are, among others, in the Musée d'Orsay. In 1867 Blanc won the Prix de Rome as a student. He thus travels to Italy on a Grand Tour to study the classics and archaeology there.
