Toutes les enchères / Art Contemporain / José Cabrera - Retrato de un Caballero
Portrait of a Knight is an original work by José Cabrera, created entirely by hand using acrylic on canvas. The painting presents a portrait of a knight dressed in carefully historical-inspired attire, characterized by a wide hat adorned with a feather, lace collar, dark garments, and rich golden ornamentation. The face, treated with special attention to the modeling of light and shadow, concentrates the viewer’s gaze and conveys a serene and confident presence. One of the main attractions of the work lies in the contrast between the sobriety of the dark tones of the clothing and the luminosity of the golden elements: chains, insignias, and especially the medallion that occupies the center of the composition. The brushwork allows us to appreciate the artist’s manual workmanship on different surfaces, from the hair and skin to the lace, the metal, and the textures of the clothing. The dark and neutral background reinforces the portrait character and allows the figure to emerge clearly, following a composition with a strong traditional painting lineage. The result is a figurative piece with a markedly classical character, but executed with the language and materials of contemporary painting. A work especially suitable for collectors interested in figurative portraiture, historically inspired painting, and works made entirely by hand.
