About the work: It shows a complex, multi-layered composition in which fine black and ochre lines cross and overlap. Figurative elements, body shapes, symbols and text fragments merge into a dynamic, almost enigmatic pictorial world. Typical for Jonathan Meese is the combination of recognizable motifs with a free, almost associative way of drawing. Particularly striking are the two bold diagonal lines that run through the depiction and give the multifaceted composition visual coherence. In between, various figures and fragments appear, including cross motifs and the handwritten text "HAGEN VON TRONJE’S AUGENLICHT". The restrained use of ochre tones forms an exciting contrast to the black lines. Despite the abundance of figures, signs and structures, the aquatint remains surprisingly light and transparent as a result. Meese is among the prominent positions in German contemporary art.
