Johnny Almond Music Machine - Patent Pending (US) –...

Scarce original 1969 US first pressing of Johnny Almond Music Machine's debut album Patent Pending, issued on Deram under catalogue number DES 18030. The album was released on Decca's progressive Deram imprint and has become a sought-after title from the late-1960s British jazz-rock and progressive scene. Johnny Almond was already an established figure in British blues and jazz-rock through his work with John Mayall, Zoot Money and the Alan Price Set before forming the Music Machine. Patent Pending brought together a particularly interesting group of musicians, including future Yes drummer Alan White, alongside Geoff Condon, Johnny Wiggins, Jimmy Crawford, Steve Hammond and Roger Sutton. Musically, the album blends jazz-rock, blues, psychedelic and early progressive influences, with Almond moving between saxophone, flute, organ, Mellotron and vibes. It is exactly the sort of adventurous late-1960s Deram release that has become increasingly interesting to collectors. ⸻ Sleeve (VG): The original heavy-cardboard sleeve remains structurally solid and presentable. There is some whitening and creasing from age and handling, together with general wear consistent with the grade. Despite this, the artwork remains attractive and the sleeve still displays very well overall. Inner Sleeve: Original inner sleeve included. Vinyl (VG+): The vinyl retains a nice original shine and remains a solid VG+ example. There are some light superficial marks and normal signs of previous play, but nothing deep or particularly distracting. Playback is strong throughout. ⸻ Details * US 1st pressing, 1969 * Deram DES 18030 * Stereo * Original heavy cardboard sleeve * Original inner sleeve included * Features future Yes drummer Alan White * Jazz-rock / progressive influences
