Jean Baptiste SAY (Lyon (69) 1767–1832) Economist, Public Speaker. He accompanied Bonaparte to Egypt. He was one of the leading proponents of the doctrine of free trade; his books on political economy were long regarded as authoritative throughout the world—Letter from A.S. “J. B. SAY,” Paris, 92 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin, September 5, 1824, addressed to Mr. RAMUS, Minister of the Holy Gospel in GENEVA, regarding his family. 2 pages, in-4°: “It is with deep gratitude that I have learned of the comfort my poor aunt, Madame DUVOISIN—who served as a mother to me at various times in my life and in hers, a life that her age and infirmities have now reduced to a deplorable state—receives from you. It pains me to be ill myself and to be unable, in her old age, to provide her with the care I received from her in my childhood. My daughter, for her part, is suffering from a rather persistent illness… You can judge from this how precious your visits are to a frail person… Fortunately, I have two relatives on my mother’s side in Geneva, the RATH sisters, to whom I am bound by friendship even more than by blood, and who have promised to help me out as much as possible… They have my full trust… ” + a signed autograph note.
