Historical front letter — Ingres's acceptance of the direction of the Académie de France à Rome, one of the turning points of his career. Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780 - 1867) French painter, was appointed director of the Académie de France à Rome (Villa Medici) at the end of 1834, in place of Horace Vernet, and took office in 1835. Paris, 24. [9bre - Novembre] 1834.
