Jardinière - Mythological - Spelter - Cherubim

Elegant Napoleonic III-style planter made of zamak or cast zinc, dating from the second half of the nineteenth century, a highly sculptural ornamental piece that reflects the eclectic and exuberant taste characteristic of French decorative arts of the era. Its silhouette, a cup-shaped form raised on a pedestal, gives the ensemble a monumental presence, while the richness of its reliefs evidences elaborate casting work inspired by classical mythology. The body is decorated with high-relief scenes featuring allegorical figures and delicately crafted mythological beings, highlighted by the depiction of an winged character accompanied by a infant putto, surrounded by vegetal motifs, scrollwork, and ornamental elements that harmoniously integrate on the surface. The side handles adopt organic, sculptural shapes that reinforce the decorative effect and the theatrical aesthetic so characteristic of the Napoleonic III style. The flared base presents fine fluted motifs and relief ornamentation that add visual dynamism and balance to the piece. The surface retains an attractive patina of oxidation and natural aging, with reddish tones and metallic hues that heighten the depth of the reliefs and attest to its antiquity. A decorative object of great personality, ideal as a planter, centerpiece, or ornamental element in classical and eclectic interiors. Its careful iconography inspired by Antiquity, the quality of the casting, and its marked French influence make this planter a magnificent example of the historicist decorative arts of the nineteenth century.
