Jan Luyken (Johannes Luiken), (164 -1712), was a poet, painter and etcher from the 17th century. He was born the son of the schoolteacher Caspar Luyken and Hester Coores. When he was 26 years old, he had a religious experience which led him to live a more devout life and he became Mennonite. This was reflected in his poetic work, which became much more edifying. From 1677 he devoted himself to etching and engravings.
