JAMES WARD, R.A. Unframed The present drawing is a study for the portrait of the Ladies Elizabeth and Georgiana Stanhope, the niece and daughter of Philip Stanhope, 5th Earl of Chesterfield (1755-1815), politician and diplomat. In the finished painting (Collection of West Northamptonshire County Council) the girls are seated beside a fawn which they festoon with a floral garland. A related study is in the collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
