Jamaica The Post Town Straight Line Handstamps 1819 (6 July) entire letter from Darley Hall near Barnsley to Spanish Town and redirected to Kingston, rated 1/- inland postage plus 1/3d. Packet letter charge, the addressee charged 3/4d. Jamaica Currency to include inland postage, uprated to 3/9d. for the redirection and showing, on reverse across join, "spanish-town/ja/5 octbr.1819" datestamp unrecorded by Foster and with only a couple of other examples recorded since. A highly unusual and important handstamp thought to have been introduced by the local Postmaster and soon discarded.
