Toutes les enchères / Ethnographie / Jade - Jadeite Pendant – Hand-Carved Blossom Motif – NGTC...

A generously sized, hand-carved jadeite jade pendant, certified by NGTC as natural Type A jadeite, meaning it is untreated: no bleaching, no polymer impregnation and no dyeing. The front is dominated by a large, full-bloomed blossom carved in deep, high relief. Its layered, ruffled petals open outward from a finely textured centre and stand well proud of the surface, as the profile view shows. Sweeping foliage and softly swirling scroll forms surround the flower. Pierced openwork details at the top frame the composition and add lightness to a substantial piece. The carving is smoothly polished throughout, so light glides over the rounded forms and brings out the gentle translucency of the stone. The stone is a soft, cool light green, as stated on the certificate, with paler areas that give the carving a luminous, layered quality. The reverse is smooth and uncarved, showing the stone's natural colour and a few fine natural mineral markings, characteristic of untreated jadeite. With its rounded, softly lobed outline and considerable depth, this is a bold statement pendant. It also suits a collector of Chinese hardstone carving.
