"The Objects of the Titanic: The Memory of the Abysses" is a reference work written by Jacques Montluçon and Noël Lacoudre, published in 1989 by Hermé / JFG / Admitech. This 240-page book holds particular significance in the history of the shipwreck, as it documents a unique scientific and technical aspect: the preservation and restoration of the first objects recovered from the Titanic. The 1987 excavation campaign: In August 1987, a Franco-American expedition (notably involving the French submarine Nautile) managed to recover hundreds of objects lying at a depth of 4,000 meters. Once out of the water, the relics faced accelerated and irreversible decomposition upon contact with air due to salt and corrosion. The book details how, for over a year, these objects were treated in a laboratory at Électricité de France (EDF). The scientists applied pioneering electrochemical treatments to stabilize the metals and preserve leather, wood, or paper. It is a highly documented work, both historical and technical, sought after by Titanic enthusiasts. A rare and out-of-print work.
