Jacques Limousin - Sculpture, Femme élégante au fauve - 45 cm - Spelter - 1930

Remarkable and sublime Art Deco-era sculpture (c. 1930) by the famed French sculptor Jacques Limousin. The work features a slender female silhouette, perfectly characteristic of the Jazz Age aesthetic, crowned with a strictly garçonne-style bob. • The work on the dress and its motifs: The young woman is clad in a form-fitting, draped gown that long follows her curves. It is enhanced by superb golden floral and geometric motifs delicately distributed across the surface of the dress. The sculptor has attended to every detail, from the plunging bare back to the fluid folds stretching down to her bare feet. • The scene: With her right hand, she makes a graceful gesture toward a young feline (panther or puma) standing on its hind legs, mouth open in a lively yet theatrical pose. • Signature: Clearly signed “Limousin” on the base of the drapery. • Patina and materials: The régule bears a nuanced patina of original origin, blending silvery tones, deep browns, and luminous gold highlights that bring out the motifs of the dress. The whole rests on a heavy and elegant veined marble plinth in pinkish/cherry tones. • Dimensions: 45.5 cm in height including its base (an imposing size, rare and sought-after for this type of piece). • Condition: Very good original condition, endowed with an authentic and warm patina.
