Precious copy of the famous Manual of French Law by J.-B.-J. Pailliet, advocate at the Sovereign Court of Orléans. Published in December 1820 by the Fain printing house for bookseller Th. Desoer, this fifth edition constitutes one of the most complete and reputed works of the Restoration period under the reign of Louis XVIII. The work exhaustively gathers the foundational legal texts of early 19th-century France: 1. The Constitutional Charter of 1814 with its organic laws. 2. The Civil Code (Napoleon Code). 3. The Code of Civil Procedure. 4. The Commercial Code. 5. The Code of Criminal Instruction. 6. The Penal Code. This volume is enriched with numerous interpretative notes, indications of variants, concordance tables for the calculation of successions and donation rights, as well as a detailed manual for law graduates. Physical and aesthetic features: • Format: Large-format in-12 (remarkable thickness of the spine). • Spine: Era-appropriate red and beige coloring in alternating strata (marbling or edge feathering in period style). • Binding: Full leather of the period. The spine is adorned with floral/rosette gilt motifs of Empire/Restoration style and a red title piece in very good condition. Condition (To be precisely adjusted according to your eyes): • Interior: Very good overall condition. The paper is clean, the texts are perfectly legible, very few foxing marks visible on the pages shown. The title page is complete and original. • Binding: Solid but showing signs of normal use for a book over 200 years old. Light rubbing on the boards, corners slightly bruised, top edge shows leather wear (visible in the back photo). The hinges remain solid and the volume stands up perfectly.
