Italy - Lazio // Ardea / Lavinio; Wilhelm Friedrich Gmelin (Germania

The scene accurately describes the historical and mythical landscape of the Roman coastline and the Pontine Marshes, at the pivotal moment of Book VII when Aeneas's messengers glimpse the settlement of King Latinus (placed by historians in the area between ancient Lavinium/Pratica di Mare and Ardea). Condition: Excellent/Good. Time-worn traces along the edges of the sheet that do not detract from the beauty of the engraved portion.
