An extraordinary lot consisting of 10 original plates etched on heavyweight paper, coming from the famous monumental work of Italian geography and cartography of the 19th century. The prints offer a precious visual, architectural and landscape testimony of Sicily of the era, portrayed with meticulous detail and figures in staffage wearing traditional or bourgeois attire of the time. Author and Provenance Author: Attilio Zuccagni-Orlandini (Italian geographer, cartographer and publisher, 1784-1873). Work: Corografia dell Italia, or The Compendious Text of the Physical, historical and statistical geography of Italy divided into its various states, published in Florence between the 1830s and 1840s in the 19th century. Period Around 1830-1840 (19th century). Technique Engraving in burin / line engraving on handmade or archival paper, with wide margins. Dimensions Overall sheet size: about 32 x 42 cm (each plate). Size of the print area / etched portion: variable, in standard horizontal or vertical format for geographic works of the period. Conservation Status General conservation good to fair considering the age. The sheets show the normal patina of time, yellowing at the margins and occasional foxing or light stains away from the etched area. Paper is stable, margins intact. Please closely review the attached images to verify the detailed condition of each item. Provenance Private Italian collection, work dismembered in the 20th century for collecting and antiquarian purposes.
