Raro samovar a vaso scanalato – Fratelli Shemarin (Tula) & I. S. Sizov (Moscow) – 1895-1915 Technical details of the lot Type: Coal/wood-fired samovar Body/boiler manufacturer: Fratelli Shemarin, Tula (Братья Шемарины въ Тулѣ) Finishing workshop: Moscow nickel-plating by I. S. Sizov (Московская никкелировка И.С. Сизова) Era: Late 19th century – early 20th century (Russian Empire, pre-1917) Material: Solid brass / tombacco with remnants of the original galvanic nickel plating Model: Vaso scanalato (vaza grannaya) Height: 51 cm Maximum width (across handles): about 32 cm Body depth: about 21 cm (spout protrusion: 13 cm) Net weight: 5.67 kg Description: Imposing and elegant Tsarist-era Russian samovar, characterized by a refined vase-like profile with vertical raised fluting (vaza grannaya), a radially grooved upper collar, and a large molded base resting on four shaped feet. The historical and collectible value of this specimen is underscored by the dual period stamps on the lid, tracing its entire fascinating production chain: - «БРАТЬЯ ШЕМАРИНЫ ВЪ ТУЛѢ» (Fratelli Shemarin a Tula): One of the most prestigious metallurgical dynasties of Imperial Russia, second in fame only to the Batashev, which melted and shaped the massive brass body. - «МОСКОВСКАЯ НИККЕЛИРОВКА И.С. СИЗОВА» (Moscow nickel-plating by I. S. Sizov): The Moscow workshop that completed the piece by applying the nickel galvanic treatment, a luxury finish highly sought after by the bourgeoisie at the time. The samovar presents itself in conditions of absolute authenticity, not polished and not tampered with. The piece retains its warm brown-gold patina of the era, resurfacing where the old nickel plating has worn away over more than a century. It is complete with its original internal flue, the konforka (teapot support ring), and the small vent cap. Structure: Excellent, solid and stable. Body free of structural dents or cracks. Authenticity: The base ashtray fund (podduvalo) shows strong, natural oxidation of iron/iron cast, a guarantee of authenticity and historical use with embers and coal; traces of oxidation are also visible beneath the base of the teapot-support ring. No converter or varnish has been applied to preserve antique value. Missing parts: The wingnut (vetka) on the front faucet and the two wooden handgrip cylinders inside the side handles are absent. It will be packaged with extreme care, adequately protecting protruding parts (faucet and handles), and shipped via trackable insured courier.
