Jewellery of the 1960s and 1970s is characterized by optimism and belief in progress. After the organic forms of the fifties, a new desire for geometry returned in the age of the race to the moon. Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings - the colour of the time was again white, like the stars, often combined with blue, like the sky of the night. Occasionally, other coloured stones in primary colours are found alongside sapphires, but it is the cool sparkle of diamonds and sapphires, combined with white gold, that is the main attraction of the jewellery of this period. The settings of the designs in that period left behind the heavy lust for shiny yellow gold of late Art Deco and increasingly dissolved into a mesh of white gold rods. The filigree structures of space equipment, the antennas of Sputnik, but also the skeletal structures of the new skyscrapers may have been the inspiration here: It was not for nothing that a brooch with the name "Cosmos" won the Jewel of the Year Award in 1967. This ring also embodies this cool, futuristic lightness. Gleaming rhodium-plated white gold and 1.085 ct of sparkling brilliant cut diamonds nestle here around a raised-set sapphire, which is at the center of the glamorous design whose shape is dictated by the oval cut of the sapphire. The stone has a deep, midnight blue colour. In contrast, the sapphire and diamonds further enhance their impact - proving why this gemstone combination in particular has enjoyed particular popularity. It is a unique piece from the renowned Christian Bauer manufactory in Welzheim, which can look back on a 135-year history.
