Hugely popular, the design was awarded a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1957 and won Henning Koppel the prestigious, Der Goldene Löffel, (‘The Golden Spoon’) award in 1963. Like Koppel’s hollowware, Caravel is characterised by its smooth, unornamented forms and distinctive sense of character. There is an example of this model in the V&A museum, London.
