Hans Christian Andersen; A

DESCRIPTION: I am pleased to offer at auction an exceptional and highly coveted LUXURY LIMITED EDITION limited to just 250 copies (ours is No. 138) of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales ("HANS ANDERSEN'S FAIRY TALES"), signed by the publishers (A. & C. Black) and published in London in 1912 by Adam & Charles Black. This copy remains in very good condition with the original Art Nouveau-style white cloth binding, illustrating a superb testament to the Golden Age of editorial illustration. A true jewel of children's and fantasy literature, Hans Christian Andersen's tales have captivated generations with their poetic melancholy, wisdom, and lasting charm. This luxury special edition pays homage to an enduring universe where art and word fuse in perfect harmony. The delicate color plates mounted outside the text by A. Duncan Carse—and his more than forty black-and-white drawings throughout the text—do not merely accompany the tale: they bring it to life. With a vivid, detailed, and deeply expressive stroke, Carse captures the magical atmosphere of immortal stories such as The Little Mermaid beneath the sea, The Emperor's New Clothes satire, The Snow Queen’s icy world, The Nightingale’s Oriental elegance, Tom Thumb’s botanical fantasy, and the palace and mysterious scenes of The Princess and the Pea, The Travel Companion, and The Elfin Merchant. A book so special that it invites the reader to plunge into a genuine bibliographic legend: Little did a certain collector imagine that he was not only seeking a rare book but a doorway to childhood and dream. On a shelf preserved from the brisk march of decades rested this limited edition, whose refined binding holds not just pages but a realm inhabited by fantastical beings, kings, mermaids, forest creatures, and fairy-tale landscapes. When opened, the world slows, time stops, and the beauty of classic illustration comes vividly to life. This 250-copy De Luxe edition was created for demanding bibliophiles. Over the years, most copies have disappeared into private collections and institutions. Finding a copy of this limited edition in this state of preservation is an increasingly rare opportunity. Holding this volume in your hands is to grasp the editorial elegance of the early 20th century: the subtlety of mounted plates on high-quality paper and the splendor of an era when every book was conceived as a work of art. The fortunate collector who becomes its next custodian will understand that some books are not merely acquired: they are inherited from their own time. Because some treasures dazzle. Others, simply, endure. LANGUAGE: English PLACE AND YEAR OF EDITION: London, 1912. By Adam & Charles Black. LUXURY LIMITED EDITION OF 250 COPIES (Ours is No. 138 of 250).
