HR Giger (1940–2014) was a Swiss painter, sculptor and designer, whose surreal influences and dark visions of the future shaped his unique biomechanical aesthetic. Already in the 1960s, he gained initial fame with air-sprayed depictions of post-apocalyptic creatures and eerie landscapes. His worldwide fame is mainly due to his work in Hollywood, especially as the creator of the iconic Xenomorph from “Alien,” a design that earned him the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
