Grand Box 45 cm - Dogon - Mali (No reserve price)

A magnificent bronze piece cast by the lost-wax method, topped by a domed arched lid, richly adorned with high-relief equestrian figures, with stout feet anchoring the piece firmly. Its borders are dressed in decorative moldings finely incised, while the flanks unfold a captivating sculpted bestiary, dominated by a monumental serpentine figure. In Dogon tradition, these prestigious receptacles constitute true insignia of power and authority. Reserved for dignitaries and religious officiants, they are entrusted with a major ritual function—to preserve the spiritual energy of the sacred objects, ceremonial offerings, and precious regalia that they shelter."
