Gleaming Polished Ammonite Fossil with Fiery Aragonite...

Lower Cretaceous - 100-110 million years ago — A piece of natural history that is also a work of art. This magnificent specimen of ammonite fossil of the genus Cleoniceras, from Madagascar deposits, has been skillfully sectioned and polished to reveal the extraordinary complexity of its inner world. Dated to the Cretaceous period, about 110 million years ago, this fossil is a tangible testament to a remote era, an open gateway to prehistoric seas. The polished surface captures the light, highlighting an incredibly detailed pattern of sutures. These natural motifs, which delineate the inner chambers of the shell, draw elegant foliate arabesques akin to fern leaves. The warm tones of amber, brown and cream blend into a fascinating chromatic composition, making every detail a small masterpiece of natural design. The charm of this specimen is further enhanced by the crystallizations of aragonite that formed inside some cavities. Like tiny geodes, these crystalline aggregates gleam as the light angle changes, creating a suggestive contrast with the opalescent fossil matrix and adding valuable three-dimensionality to the whole. Ammonites, extinct mollusks from the cephalopod family, dominated the Mesozoic oceans. The genus Cleoniceras is one of the most representative of the Albian period. Their spiral shell was not only a protection, but also a sophisticated buoyancy instrument, whose internal structure is perfectly preserved in this fossil. This specimen is not only a fossil of great interest, but also a rare beauty, ideal for enriching a mineral collection, a modern Wunderkammer, or to confer a touch of elegance and history to any space. A piece that combines science, art and design in a timeless form.
