Giulio Aristide Sartorio (1860–1932) - Ritratto di donna

Refined female portrait by Giulio Aristide Sartorio (1860-1932), a great versatile artist, active between the late nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth. Sartorio was a prominent exponent of Italian divisionism and symbolism, famous for his portraits, landscapes and large decorative cycles. The painting depicts a young woman in profile, captured in an elegant and reflective stance. The figure is rendered with great delicacy: the face, illuminated by a soft light, shows harmonious features and an intense gaze that seems to look beyond the painting space. The brown hair is gathered in a simple yet refined hairstyle, which frame the face with naturalness. The shoulders are wrapped in a soft dark stole, creating a contrast with the pale skin and with the lighter shades of the background. The background, executed with dynamic touches of green, ochre and yellow, gives the portrait depth and vitality, emphasizing the central presence of the female figure. The pastel technique enhances the delicate nuances and the softness of the tonal transitions, making the work particularly intimate and expressive. The work measures cm 57x43, it is made with pastels on paper, there are some foxings due to time, it is signed bottom right. The frame, on which there is a plaque with the artist's name, measures cm 65x51 and shows normal signs of aging.
