Giovanni Cappa Legora - La Rocca di Angera - Lago Maggiore

The painting depicts a picturesque, antique landscape—an oil-on-canvas work set within a classic, carved frame. It captures a serene Italian lakeside scene, featuring a view of Lake Maggiore and the renowned fortress, Rocca di Angera. Executed in a realistic style with touches of impressionistic, free brushwork, the piece places great emphasis on the atmospheric quality of the air and the play of natural light. The painting is set in a wide, substantial, cream-colored wooden frame featuring gilded ornamental molding along the edges and corners. Some of artworks of the artist have been sold at auction houses. In the early 20th century (the early 1900s) Villa Lomellini-Cappa Legora was purchased by the family of the painter Giovanni Cappa Legora (Turin, 1887 – Stresa, 1980), from whom the villa takes its name.
