Horst Dalbeck for Gilde Handwerk – five-armed candelabrum, bronze, Germany, 1960s Description Sculptural five-armed candelabrum by Horst Dalbeck for Gilde Handwerk, Germany, from the 1960s. The exceptional candle holder shows Dalbeck's characteristic organic, sculptural formal language. The five curved arms emanate from a sturdy, architecturally inspired torso. The surface is relief-like structured and has a warm, dark-gold patina. The candelabrum is made of heavy cast metal and is attributed to Horst Dalbeck for Gilde Handwerk. On the back there is still the original Gilde-Handwerk sticker, clearly visible in the photos. The object, with its organic forms and deliberately rugged texture, is a characteristic example of German Brutalism or mid-century design of the 1960s.
