(Sacra Caesarea Maestà) Detailed Description: Splendid and celebrated geographical map of Great Britain and Ireland, engraved and published in Nuremberg by the eminent German cartographer Johann Baptist Homann. Cartographic Details: The map depicts with extraordinary richness the kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland, subdivided into counties and provinces, with indications of the minor islands (Isle of Man, Anglesey, the Hebrides, the Orkneys, the Isles of Scilly). In the lower right corner the coast of the continental Europe (the Netherlands and Flanders) is visible. In the lower left there are graphic scales expressed in English miles, Scottish miles, Irish miles, German miles, and hours of walking. Figurative Cartouche: Large and exceptional allegorical cartouche located in the upper right corner. It features the portrait of King George I (or William III depending on the edition), supported by cherubs and putti, accompanied by allegorical figures symbolizing Britain’s maritime and commercial power, the royal coat of arms, and the British lion. Back (Reverse): The back is white, with a sepia-era handwritten note "Britannia compt. Angl. Schot. & Hibern. Regna" and a manuscript collection mark/signature of an old collection ("M.V."), evidence of its historical provenance from an Atlantic or private collection. Condition and State of Preservation: General Condition: Very good / Good for a map over 300 years old. Coloring: Era coloring well preserved within regional boundaries.
